Bohetang Gaogan 2025

7O1B25
The first grade of Bohetang, from the large, old tea trees.

Bohetang is a rare and renowned specialty from Yunnan: a very remote area in the Yiwu tea region, where years ago an ancient tea garden was discovered in a primeval forest with exceptionally rich biodiversity. No one lives there; the nearest village is several hours away on foot, Bohetang can only be reached on foot, or, for some years now, also by motorcycle—though only with considerable difficulty.

In this tea forest stand 50 large, very old tea trees (12 m tall or higher; tree no. 13 died in 2017, leaving 49 large trees), 249 topped (i.e. pruned) old tea trees, and many smaller tea trees.

Our Bohetang Gaogan 2025 comes from tea made from the large old tea trees numbered 18, 19, and 23. Four families, connected through four sisters, watch over this tea and sell it only by mutual agreement.
