Sencha Kirishima

A lovely Sencha from Kirishima, made from shaded bushes of the Asatsuyu tea plant variety in the Kagoshima tea-growing region, which is best known for producing large quantities for export to the West. Kirishima generally produces the finest teas in the region. Kirishima is situated in the south of the island of Kyushu, which is why the frost-sensitive Asatsuyu cultivar can be grown here, yielding robust teas with plenty of umami and sweetness. Asatsuyu was selected from seeds of Zairai bushes from Uji and registered in 1953.
