Si Da Ming Cong

Da Hong Pao, Tie Luo Han, Bai Ji Guan, Shui Jin Gui

These four varieties are grouped together as Si Da Ming Cong (Four Great Famous Tea Bushes). These are the original tea bushes from Wuyishan and are only grown in Wuyi, however they are relatively rare today compared to others. They are not as easy to process and yield less than modern varieties.

Da Hong Pao is not strictly speaking a tea plant varietal, but a tea name. Various Wuyi Rock Teas are sold under this name. Three different varietals were created from the original Dahongpao tea bushes by vegetative propagation, i.e. by cuttings: Bei Dou ("Big Dipper, Constellation”), Que She ("Sparrow's Tongue") and Qi Dan ("Unusual Vermilion"). Teas from these varietals are genuine Da Hong Pao.
