Compact bamboo chachu with bamboo matan. Chachuan, literally “tea boat” in Chinese, refers to the tray or coaster used for small teapots or gaiwan. In classic Gongfucha practice, the teapot or gaiwan is placed – with or without a coaster – on a chachuan or a small plate. Cups (and optionally a chahai or another decanting vessel) are placed on one or more coasters. All utensils can be arranged on a tea cloth. Wastewater is not drained into an integrated tray (as in tea boats with catch basins), but poured into a separate wastewater vessel (jianshui).
