Min Hong (Fujian Black Tea)

Min Hong, "Fujian Black Tea" are produced in various regions of the Fujian province. In the past, they have all been produced as Gong Fu Cha, which means "tea (made with) great attention and great skill", whereas today, they are mainly sold whole leafed. We only call those teas Gongfu, that are being sorted. The traditional Min Hong Gong Fu originate from the villages of Tanyang, Bailin and Zhenghe, and they have been famous since 1851. Recently the Jin Jun Mei from Tongmuguan at Wuyishan also got to fame. The Min Hong teas are either produced from local Xiao Ye Zhong ("Small Leaf Variety") varietals or from Da Bai (tea plants used to make white teas). The production of black teas was invented around 1800 in the back country of Wuyishan, and hence the Min Hong teas are considered as some of the oldest black teas. Fu Jian Hong Cha, short Min Hong, are of moderate strength, yet intense and velvety-sweetish with fruity-aromatic notes.
